Cinema Theater Tycoon — Demo V2 launches February 12, 2026!

Hello everyone, movie lovers, cosy game fans, and tycoon players!

Today, we’re diving into everything that’s changing in Cinema Theater Tycoon starting on February 12, 2026. We’ve been working on this new demo version for a long time… and to be honest, it’s not just an “update”: it’s a full overhaul, with a huge amount of improvements.

In this article (both general and a bit technical), we’ll present the major upgrades to:

  • the gameplay

  • the UI

  • the progression

  • and the visuals

Since the release of DEMO V1, all our effort has been focused on your feedback. We tried to spot patterns: what you love, what frustrates you, what raises doubts, and what you truly expect from the game.

And starting on February 12, your feedback will matter even more: it will have a direct impact on the final content of the game. 👉 We’re counting on you to join our Discord and share your thoughts: we’re regularly online and listening.

⚠️ In this article, we’re talking only about improvements available in Demo V2. For everything else (what you’ll discover in the full release), we’ll have time to talk about it later!

Progression & time flow

The game covers a very wide period: from 1900 to 2020. To keep this timeline fun and interesting over the long run, we absolutely had to rework the pacing and progression.

Time moves faster

In Demo V1, time was set to: 4 in-game days = 1 year. In Demo V2, we’re switching to: 1 in-game day = 1 year.

Direct consequences:

  • On average, there are around 10 films per year to discover

  • Players must make real choices (you won’t be able to buy / screen everything)

  • Those choices now carry more weight than before

More “active” progression thanks to research

To help you better visualize the arrival of technologies and gameplay systems, we’re adding a technology research area.

The idea is simple:

  • each technology requires time + money

  • it’s up to the player to choose their priorities

  • progression depends less on “time only” and more on your decisions

  • Time remains a core value of the game, but we want it to stay balanced, so it doesn’t fully control the gameplay by itself.

More player feedback

A lot of players pointed this out (and rightly so): once the cinema was built, it was hard to understand why one screen was doing better than another.

So we did a complete overhaul of:

  • the statistics

  • and the algorithm that calculates attendance

  • From now on, attendance depends on 4 core parameters:

Movie rating

Movies are the heart of the game: they have a real impact on your cinema’s success.

The movie rating is recalculated for every screening and depends in particular on:

  • the genres

  • current trends (genres, regions, the movie itself)

  • the region of origin

  • the press rating

  • the movie’s age (too old / cult classic, etc.)

  • and how well it matches the audience you’ve built (see the next section)

👉 All these calculations are visible in the new movie statistics interface:

  • current trends

  • list of rated movies

  • a breakdown of the factors influencing the rating

Cinema rating

It already existed in V1, but it’s now clearer and much more useful.

This rating depends on your customers’ experience:

  • enough ticket booths

  • enough restrooms

  • enough food

  • cleanliness

  • equipment not too outdated, etc.

👉 You can analyze all of this through the Spectators interface, which shows:

  • clear sliders (ticket booths / restrooms / food / cleanliness)

  • a text log of customer feedback

  • the overall cinema rating

  • and the audience trend you’ve built

✅ The “Trend-o-meter”: multiplex OR indie theaters?

We didn’t want to punish players who prefer running independent cinemas. So we added a system that rewards your programming choices:

  • if your movie choices align with your audience’s trend, the movie rating gets boosted

  • which means you get more customers

Goal: reward multiple playstyles:

  • building a multiplex empire

  • or developing small, highly distinctive indie theater.

Number of seats

Yes: the number of seats is a key factor in attendance.

👉 To make it easier to understand, we’re adding a new screening statistics UI, featuring:

  • number of seats per screen

  • equipment

  • occupancy rate

  • movies that brought in the most / least admissions

  • an attendance graph to visualize peak hours and spectator flow

Extra impacts (reputation & difficulty)

Reputation now plays a bigger role:

  • it affects access to events (premieres, masterclasses, cine-concerts)

  • it can also boost attendance (a growing bonus as your reputation increases)

  • And of course, difficulty has an impact:

  • on how demanding movie/cinema ratings are

  • and on attendance bonuses/penalties (especially on hard difficulty)

Customization & building

We know many of you also love the cosy / building / decorating side of the game.

✅ Good news: you’ll still be able to play with unlimited money if your goal is to build and customize freely.

Building improvements

  • smoother controls

  • new objects for the demo period (1900–1914)

  • improved placement (walls, chair snapping, table objects)

  • more accurate and more consistent placements

  • We also put a lot of care into sound: overall, this version feels more “satisfying”, and we think you’ll really feel it while playing.

Visuals

Visually, we made progress on a key point: strengthening the illusion of a 3D world with 2D sprites.

What’s changing:

  • characters blend better into their environment

  • far fewer visual artifacts that “break” coherence

  • several elements were reworked to better match our perspective

Wall overhaul

We were very skeptical about how walls looked in the reduced view. So we decided to do a full wall overhaul:

  • smoother transitions between reduced / non-reduced view

  • less visual blocking

  • better overall readability

Other upgrades (quick list, but important)

There’s still a lot more we could share, but we’re trying to keep this readable. Here are a few quick additions:

  • major optimization improvements: we often dropped under 30 FPS before, now it’s much more stable around 120 FPS (depending on your setup)

  • a new TUTORIAL

  • new technical views:

    • employee / customer flow

    • cinema “beauty”

    • cinema dirtiness

  • new animations for interactive objects

  • many UI/menu improvements

  • a brand-new reel repair system: clearer and more visual

  • and dozens of other improvements you’ll discover directly in Demo V2!

Thank you ❤️
